Returning a Tag From a Tagged Fish

Tag return information is vital to this project.  If you catch a spiny and remove the tag please fill out the Tag Return Form
(click on the italics) as completely as possible and return with the tag attached.  While we would like to have the exact measurements and location, we understand that this information is not always available.  We do require an approximation (ex:  7mi SE of Cape Hatteras, NC;  approx. 79cm total length.)

I do need the form filled out as completely as possible in order to send you the reward.

Tags should be attached to the return form and mailed to

Dr. Roger Rulifson
Dogfish Population Study
Department of Biology
East Carolina University
Greenville, NC 27858

If you catch and rerelease a tagged animal without removing the tag we would appreciate the same information.  Please fill out the above form and either mail to the above address or e-mail to rulifsonr@ecu.edu.

If possible, please record a "total length (TL)" measurement of the recaptured spiny dogfish.  By comparing the length at release and recapture, we can estimate the growth rate of these spiny dogfish.  The longer the fish is swimming free, the more important the fish measurement!

To identify the total length, measure the spiny dogfish from the tip of the snout to the end of the tail. Pull the tail down to form a straight line with the body.
